Unicorn Steak Recipe

Unicorn Salt Cast Iron Steak Recipe

A simple, magical way to elevate your steak with purple basil salt.

Ingredients:

  • 1 ribeye, strip, or sirloin steak (1–1.5 inches thick)
  • Unicorn Salt (about 1 tsp per side)
  • Neutral oil (like avocado or grapeseed)
  • Optional: butter + garlic + rosemary for basting

Instructions:

  1. Dry brine the steak: Generously season both sides with Unicorn Salt. Place on a rack or plate uncovered in the fridge for at least 1 hour (up to 24 hours).
  2. Bring to room temp: Take the steak out 30 minutes before cooking.
  3. Preheat your pan: Heat a cast iron skillet over medium-high until very hot (just starting to smoke).
  4. Sear the steak: Add a little oil, then lay the steak in the pan. Don’t move it for 2–3 minutes. Flip and repeat on the other side.
  5. Optional basting: Add butter, garlic, and rosemary to the pan. Tilt and spoon the melted butter over the steak for 30–60 seconds.
  6. Check doneness: Use a thermometer for perfect temp:
    • Rare: 120–125°F
    • Medium rare: 130–135°F
    • Medium: 140–145°F
  7. Rest: Transfer to a plate and let rest 5–10 minutes. Slice and sprinkle with a pinch more Unicorn Salt.

This simple dry brine locks in flavor and tenderness—your steak will taste like you cooked with a secret weapon (because you did).
